I just read that Marilyn Monroe would have been 85 today. Here’s an old post of mine:
In a recent editorial, Maureen Dowd wrote about Marilyn Monroe and Sarah Palin and striving to better yourself versus celebrating ignorance. According to Dowd, Marilyn was portrayed as the Dumb Blonde who was often given a classic to hold in shoots so she could “pretend” to be smart. But funny thing happened along the way…she often read them. Sarah, on the other hand, makes up words and then compares herself to Shakespeare who also made up words. I’m sorry Sarah, but to paraphrase an old debate in an old vice presidential campaign:
I feel like I know William Shakespeare. I feel like William Shakespeare is a friend of mine. You, Sarah, are no William Shakespeare.
I thought that this line Dowd quoted from Marilyn’s husband, Arthur Miller was pure poetry as it called to mind Marilyn in a billowy dress being yanked and pawed and underestimated. He said she was
